Has this ever happened to you?
Many of us, myself included prior to my current knowledge, blame this on poor habits and weak muscles. My question to you is, why? Why is it that when we're actually working on improving on our posture do we experience pain?
I've started showing my patients their x-rays during their Doctor's Report. Many are shocked to find how straight or reversed the curve in their neck is! The structure of our neck, our cervical spine, is designed to hold the weight of our really heavy head (10-12lbs), without us ever noticing it.
When the atlas gets stuck in the wrong position, due to different factors, it shifts the structure and the neck is no longer in its prime position for holding up your bowling ball of a head! This starts to cause the supporting muscles to panic and then go into a spasm - your new neck and back pain!
So why do we have pain? It's because we're trying to force good posture on a bad foundation.
In order for us to have true good posture that is easy to maintain, we must correct the foundation and then strengthen the supporting muscles, not vice versa.
Patients who've undergone care have noticed:
- a greater awareness of their head and body in space
- the ability to sit/stand in a better posture with ease.
- that their body naturally wants to be in that better posture
- that they can stay in that better posture for longer periods of time
- that the better posture actually helps them focus and have more clarity when associated with the time they spend at the computer or desk for work.
