If you think back to elementary school, we learn about the body as different organs and systems, as pieces of a whole instead of as a pyramid with the brain and nervous system at the top! From our youth, we've already misunderstood the key point in how the body truly functions.
Gray's Anatomy, the medical textbook, tells us that the purpose of the brain and the nervous system is to control and coordinate the functions of the tissues, organs, and systems in the body and to help us adapt to the environment. So here's the simple connection, if the body is NOT adapting to the environment, the brain and nervous system are NOT working properly.
So why do we still think that if we have high blood pressure, there must be something wrong with the heart? Or if we have infertility or allergies, we have something wrong with the reproductive organs or lungs? A quick reminder that our brain and nervous system are responsible for all those messages to the body. If we are having health concerns, we should really look to see if the connection between the brain and those organs is working first! If we actually take the leap to shifting our mindset on how we view our bodies and and what it means to be healthy, we might actually see less intervention and more just giving the body a chance to do what it was meant to do... adapt.
